Jason's Cancer
Story

In late October 2025, our world shifted when Jason was diagnosed with cancer. For a few weeks, he’d been complaining of pain in his left wrist. At the time, he had been working on recording an album, so we suspected it was just overuse. Because of his experience with Crohn’s Disease, we know that when something just doesn’t feel right, we just go to the ER. That was Thursday night; by the next Tuesday, he was meeting with Dr Jodie Miles, a specialized orthopedic oncologist. Preliminary biopsy results indicated Ewings Sarcoma.
Having experienced two youth in our neighborhood fighting Ewing’s, we were pretty familiar with it. Dr Miles ordered another biopsy; statistically, having 3 kids in such a small geographical area diagnosed with ES was literally impossible (okay, “highly unlikely”). In large part thanks to Elizabeth’s and Jake Johnston’s efforts to raise awareness, Jason’s tumor was correctly diagnosed as High Grade Osteosarcoma, despite the ‘blue tint’ normally associated with Ewing’s biopsy samples. It was a diagnosis that no one expected, but Jason met it with the same resilience and positive attitude that he brings to everything in his life.
By early December, Jason began an aggressive treatment plan including ongoing chemotherapy. While the road has been physically and emotionally demanding, especially with the added complexity of his Crohn’s treatments, Jason’s spirit has remained unbroken (except for a week in April that was particularly excruciating). Throughout the winter and into the spring of 2026, he has faced every round of treatment with a level of gratitude that has inspired everyone around him.
We haven't been in this alone. From the humbling support of friends and family to the "Racin’ for Jason" team forming for this coming June’s ‘Race for a Cure’, the outpouring of love has been our fuel. This website is a space to share his progress and celebrate every milestone—big and small—as Jason continues his fight.

Why this fundraiser?
We can't take over chemo treatments for him, but we can make sure he has all the support and love as we cheer him on so he feels how much his family and friends care! Cancer treatment is expensive...let's relieve a little bit of that burden so Jason and his family can focus on healing!
Jason has been in chemo since last fall, undergone major surgery to remove his tumor, and is now in the latter rounds of chemo. He is hoping to start the very long process of healing soon. Click below to "Shine a Light" and help Jason in his cancer journey.

Remembering our why
Elizabeth's story continues on in the love that her family and friends carry with them. She knew what it was to suffer, to fight, and to feel loved through it all.
We want to continue the love to those still fighting.
Elizabeth touched countless lives and we are forever changed because of her. Life will never be the same without Elizabeth here with us. Miss and love you Elizabeth. Can't wait to hug you again!
